How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost in Dallas?

Extensions are the highest-ticket service on most salon menus in the Dallas area, and comparing prices between salons is genuinely difficult, because the quotes are not always measuring the same thing.

Here is what extensions cost at our Plano salon, what drives the number up or down, and the figure almost nobody quotes you up front: what the first year actually costs.

These are starting rates, not quotes. Every set of extensions is individual and yours comes in writing at your complimentary consultation.

The First Question to Ask Any Dallas Salon

Does the price include the hair?

This single question explains most of the difference between quotes you will get around the metroplex. Hair is the largest line item in an extension install. A salon quoting labor only can advertise a figure that looks dramatically lower and still land in the same place once the hair is added, or higher.

Our $1,500 hand-tied and $800 tape-in starting prices both include the hair. When you are comparing, make sure you are comparing like with like.

What Pushes a Quote Above the Starting Rate

The amount of hair. The biggest single factor by a distance. A subtle volume boost needs far fewer wefts than a dramatic length change.

Length. Longer hair costs more per weft, and the gap widens sharply at the long end.

Number of rows. Most hand-tied clients need two to four rows, depending on density and the result they are after.

Your stylist's level. Our stylists work across five levels based on experience and demand, the same system used across the rest of our menu.

Color customization. If you wear highlights, balayage or a lived-in blend, matching a single flat shade will not work. Custom-coloring extension hair so your dimension carries through is additional work, and it is the difference between extensions that read as your hair and extensions that read as a curtain hanging underneath it.

The Number That Actually Decides It: Year One

Install price is what people compare. Annual cost is what determines whether extensions fit your life. Using our starting rates:

Hand-tied, on a six-to-eight-week move-up cycle:

• Installation from $1,500
• About seven move-ups a year from $350 each, roughly $2,450
• Year one from about $4,000
• The hair lasts nine to twelve months, so year two starts with a replacement cost

Tape-in, on the same cycle:

• Installation from $800
• About seven re-tapes a year from $200 each, roughly $1,400
• Year one from about $2,200
• The hair lasts four to six months, so budget to replace it two or three times a year

Keratin bond, on a three-to-four-month cycle: fewer appointments, but each reinstall uses fresh hair because the keratin tip is consumed at removal.

These exclude color, which most extension clients need on a similar schedule. If a salon has only quoted you the install figure, you have seen well under half the picture.

Where Not to Economize

The color match. A bad match is visible from across a room and the only fix is doing it again. At our salon the consultation and match cost nothing, which makes it the cheapest insurance in the whole process.

The move-up schedule. This is the expense that looks skippable and is not. Nearly every case of extension damage traces back to a row left in too long rather than to the installation itself. Skipping a $350 move-up to save money is how people end up paying for a haircut they did not want.

Where You Sensibly Can

• Start with tape-ins if you are not certain. Roughly half the entry cost and a real answer for under a thousand dollars.
• Prioritize volume over maximum length. Length is where hair cost climbs fastest.
• Consider a partial install. Extensions do not have to be a full head — face-framing pieces or a single row is a legitimate option.
• Consider keratin bonds if appointment frequency rather than money is your constraint: three to four months between visits instead of six to eight weeks.
