Hand-Tied (Beaded Weft) Extensions in Dallas & Plano, TX

What "Hand-Tied" and "Beaded Weft" Actually Mean

The two phrases describe the same service, and you will hear both used interchangeably in DFW salons.

Beaded weft describes the foundation: small silicone-lined beads are clamped along a horizontal section of your natural hair, then a thread is woven through them to create a secure anchor row. Hand-tied describes the hair itself: the weft is tied by hand rather than machine-sewn, which makes it dramatically thinner and lighter than a machine weft.

Put them together and you get a row of hair that is sewn onto a thread foundation, sitting completely flat against your head, with nothing glued and nothing heated.

How the Install Works, Step by Step

1. Small silicone-lined beads are placed along a horizontal section of your natural hair
2. A thread is woven through the beads, creating a secure anchor row
3. A thin, hand-tied weft of human hair is sewn onto that thread
4. The weft lies flat against your head, hidden beneath the hair above it
5. Once every row is in, your extensionist cuts and blends the extensions into your natural hair
6. Your hair is styled so you leave seeing the finished result, not a work in progress

Most clients need 2 to 4 rows. A full head takes 2 to 3 hours.

Who Hand-Tied Suits Best

Hand-tied is the method we recommend most often, and it is the right call if:

• Your hair is fine or thin. Even weight distribution across a row is far gentler than loading individual strands, which makes hand-tied one of the safest methods for fine hair.
• You want real length, not just volume. Rows carry enough hair to add significant length without looking stringy at the ends.
• You wear your hair up. Ponytails, updos and high half-up styles stay clean because there are no individual bonds to expose.
• You are growing out a short cut. Rows bridge the awkward in-between phase instead of waiting it out.
• You want the hair to last. Wefts are reused through move-ups for 9 to 12 months.

It is not the right method if you have hair loss at the scalp level, natural hair shorter than about 5 to 6 inches, or certain scalp conditions. We will tell you that honestly at your complimentary consultation rather than take the booking.

Combination Installs

For a lot of our clients the best answer is not one method. Hand-tied wefts build overall volume and length through the back and sides, and a handful of strategically placed keratin bonds fill in the places a row physically cannot reach: right at the hairline, along the part, and around the face.

Combination installs are one of our specialties. If it is the right fit for your hair, your extensionist will raise it at your consultation.

Living With Hand-Tied Rows

• Brush with a loop brush or wet brush, starting at the ends and working up. Never rip through a tangle near a row.
• Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner only. Sulfates strip the extension hair, which cannot replenish its own oils.
• Keep conditioner and oils off the rows. Product buildup at the beads causes slippage.
• Dry the row area after washing. Do not leave beads sitting wet.
• Braid loosely before bed, and use a silk or satin pillowcase.
• Heat is fine, within reason. Stay under 350°F and always use a heat protectant.
• Rinse immediately after swimming. Chlorine and salt dry and discolor extension hair.

Keeping Them On Schedule

Hand-tied rows need a move-up appointment every 6 to 8 weeks. The rows are taken down, your natural hair is washed, detangled and checked, and the same wefts go back in higher up as your hair grows.

This is the part people underestimate, and it is the part that protects your hair. Rows left in past schedule start pulling at a bad angle, and that is where matting and breakage come from. It is not the extensions, it is the calendar.
