Full Highlights vs. Partial Highlights

The single most important decision is how many foils you need — and that comes down to full versus partial:

• Full highlights foil the entire head: front, top, sides, and back. This gives maximum brightness and the most even coverage, and it's the right call if you want to be a noticeably lighter blonde all over or you wear your hair up and down in every direction.
• Partial highlights concentrate foils on the top, crown, and the sides that frame your face — the pieces you and everyone else see most. Partials give a beautiful lift for less time and cost, and they're ideal if your goal is brightness where it shows rather than uniform all-over color.

Not sure which you need? A good rule of thumb: if you frequently wear your hair in a high ponytail or bun and want brightness underneath too, lean full. If you mostly wear it down and want your face and part to pop, a partial usually does the job. What to Expect at Your Appointment

Every foil service at our Plano salon starts with a consultation. Your colorist assesses your natural base, any existing color and its condition, and the look you're after. Bring reference photos — they communicate your goal far better than shade names.

Then the foiling begins. Your colorist weaves and foils each section, places them by design, and processes under careful watch. Once you've reached the right level of lift, the foils come out and the finishing work begins: a shadow root to soften regrowth if desired, and a gloss or toner to neutralize any unwanted warmth and set your final tone. Because foils start at the root, regrowth shows sooner than it does with balayage. Most highlight clients come in every 6-10 weeks, and there are ways to stretch that:

• A shadow root softens the regrowth line so you can go longer between full sets.
• Purple shampoo, sulfate-free products, and cooler water all slow fading at home.
